Below is a Marshall Fire summary from the Incident Management Team for Jan. 2, 2022
Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team
Dan Dallas, Incident Commander
Special Safety Information:
As assessments are completed, the evacuation status of an area will be updated to allow residents to return home. Only residents will be allowed re-entry back into areas that have been deemed safe. If individuals park and/or walk into areas that have not been cleared for re-entry, the clearance process will take longer as it will divert resources from their mission and can hinder response to new emergencies. Please continue to be patient as we work to get areas open as quickly as possible and please respect the closures.
Current Situation:
The Marshall Fire is 6,219 acres and 74% of the perimeter has been contained. Fire personnel continue to work closely with individuals from Team Rubicon, Xcel Energy, multiple law enforcement agencies, Division of Fire Prevention and Control, and Colorado National Guard on the fire and recovery efforts. The primary objective for fire managers remains public and firefighter safety.
Crews are working to minimize additional impacts to structures and assist in safely repopulating communities. Firefighters are working in and around the fire perimeter removing remaining heat, securing structures, and ensuring that the area is safe for utility crews and damage assessment teams to complete their work. Fire personnel will support these necessary operations while also responding to any increased fire activity. Night shift firefighters and law enforcement remain engaged in their duties in soft and hard closure areas.
Areas of significant heat, which have the potential to flare back up, still exist around some of the impacted structures. It will take firefighters some time to methodically go around each structure to ensure that they are out and pose no hazard to the fire perimeter or adjacent unburned structures.
Weather & Fuel Conditions:
Mild and dry conditions are expected Monday and Tuesday with high temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to 50 degrees. Wind direction will vary but will remain from 6-18 mph. Snow may return to the area on Wednesday. Some areas of the fire may continue produce smoke from smoldering vegetation and debris.
