On November 5, 2024, at approximately 12:45 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received multiple calls reporting a loud audible siren in the 100-block of 2nd Avenue in Niwot. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Mountain View Fire Rescue arrived and found that an audible siren on a retired/historical fire station building in Old Town Niwot had activated. Responders were able to deactivate the siren by approximately 1:10 a.m.
The retired fire station is privately owned, and this siren is not part of the outdoor warning siren system maintained by the Boulder Office of Disaster Management or the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. It was determined that the siren activation was likely due to an electrical malfunction, and thankfully there was no actual public safety emergency. Power to the siren was shut off to prevent reactivation.
