Important Update for Cold Springs Fire Residents

At the 1 p.m. community meeting, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle reported that firefighters had a good day today, a lot of progress was made on the line.

Important announcements:

Residents’ Access to Burn Area:

  • Tomorrow morning (Wednesday, July 13) we will try to get everyone back to their houses for a couple of hours to get essentials and to properly close-up their homes.
  • We want you to use that time to clean out your refrigerators/freezers. Get clothes and essentials, like medications.
  • But, we need to use that time in a coordinated fashion and then leave again because we need to suspend fire operations while we do it.
  • Timeline (Cold Springs Fire Resident Reentry Map)
    • If you live on the south side of the blue line on the map, you’ll have access from 7 -9 a.m. tomorrow and you’ll enter from the Hurricane Hill side.
    • If you live on north side of the blue line on the map, you’ll have access from 9- 11 a.m. and you will enter on Cold Springs Rd.
  • The deputies will let you in and they’ll check your name. And then you need to leave again

Trash disposal:

  • The county will place dumpsters in the area for resident’s use.
  • We are working to open access to the sort yard and transfer station soon.

Magnolia:
Magnolia opened up at 11:30 a.m. That fire line has really held well, we’re no longer extremely concerned about the fire blowing up and jumping over Boulder Canyon.

Boulder Canyon Road:

  • Boulder Canyon Rd. still needs to stay closed in the area where crews are active.
  • Fire crews are are working up the hill above Boulder Canyon Rd and a lot of vegetation has burned off, leaving rocks at risk of rolling down onto Boulder Canyon Rd.
  • We may be able to open 119 eventually, just one lane, until CDOT can figure out to do with the rocks.

From IMT Commander:

  • Wind was heavy yesterday, but the fire lines held.
  • The fire perimeter is the same.
  • Firefighters are establishing perimeter lines and working on interior areas that are still burning.
  • Estimated 25% containment by end of the day today.
  • Working with county and utilities to restore utilities and check on roads within the burn area.
