Public Health Advisory – Dangerously Cold Temperatures

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Wednesday afternoon through the night and a wind chill watch from Wednesday evening through Friday morning, including dangerously low temperatures for the next several days in Boulder County. An arctic front is expected to drive the temperature below zero on Wednesday night, and it is likely to remain near or below zero throughout Thursday and into Friday morning. In addition, dangerously cold wind chills may drive temperatures as low as minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday.

Take precautions to protect yourself from the cold:

  • If you plan to be outdoors, dress in layers of warm clothing, including a hat, scarf, gloves and socks. Keep exposed skin covered, as extreme low temperatures have the ability to cause frostbite on exposed skin in less than 5 minutes.
  • Do not stay outdoors for extended periods.
  • Check on and help family members, friends and neighbors with limited mobility and limited access to heat, such as seniors or those who are ill. Check on them frequently.
  • If you have pets, bring them indoors and do not leave them outside overnight.
